Minneapolis—Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer released the following statement tonight regarding the nomination of Senator John McCain as the Republican candidate for President of the United States:
“Florida’s Republican delegation was proud to participate in this historic evening and to officially nominate John McCain as our Republican candidate. From his maverick style that bucks ‘politics as usual’ to his pledge to clean up Washington, John McCain is the real deal. Side by side with his Vice President, Governor Sarah Palin, John McCain will use his extensive record of fighting for change to get our economy back on track, govern for the people, and reach across the aisle to work for common-sense solutions to our greatest challenges. We will continue to campaign with vigor and enthusiasm and we will carry Florida for John McCain and Sarah Palin.”
MORE »ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Revved up by a steady diet of red-meat speeches and a crackling vice presidential nominee, Florida Republicans are bounding out of the national convention determined to deliver the nation's largest swing state for the third election in a row.
Their marching orders: Infect independents, Hillary Clinton supporters and hard-core Republican voters with their newfound excitement over the national ticket. Parlay the frenzy over vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin into cold cash. Crank up a grass-roots machine of phone banks, precinct walks, talk radio and absentee ballot mailings.
''Don't think for a minute we can walk out of this convention -- even after Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani sliced and diced -- that it means we're going to win this election,'' Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum told Florida delegates in a pep talk Thursday morning over omelets and hash browns. ``We've got to go out and work very hard for it.''
