Republicans Proud to Protect Second Amendment Rights


Pro-Second Amendment Legislation:

  • The Republican-led Legislature has ensured that Florida remains a "shall issue" state in regards to the right to carry firearms. "Shall issue" status requires the state to issues permits to applicants who meet uniform standards and wish to carry a firearm for protection.
  • The Legislature recently acted to prevent the compiling of databases containing the names of law-abiding firearms owners and their weapons. The law prevents the state from profiling gun-owners for no reason, arguing that they are exercising a Constitutional right and should not be punished for it.
  • The Republican-led Legislature passed the "Stand Your Ground Law" which removes the burden of proof from property owners defending their homes. Previously, when someone killed an intruder in his home, he had to prove that he feared for his life. With the passage of the "Stand Your Ground Law," the individual is only required to prove that the intruder unlawfully and forcefully entered his home.
