Tallahassee–The Republican Party of Florida today commented on Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink enlisting her left-wing Democrat allies, including ACORN, to help provide consumer oversight in the insurance industry.
“Year after year, ACORN has tried to take away the voices of Floridians across our state, but now Alex Sink thinks the organization is fit to help ensure that Floridians have a voice in the legislative process,” said Ronnie Whitaker, RPOF Executive Director. “It’s not enough that Alex Sink bankrolls Washington liberals like Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Al Gore, Barbara Boxer and Bill Clinton, but now she’s utilizing her official office to pander to their ultra-liberal special interest groups. Is this what we have in store if she’s elected Governor?”
“To say that an organization like ACORN will help ‘provide consumers with the peace of mind’ is as outrageous as the ACORN tax expert who ‘helped’ a young woman posing as a prostitute by teaching her how to set up a prostitution ring and evade the IRS,” continued Whitaker. “If ACORN wants to provide Floridians with peace of mind, a good starting point might be not duplicating voter registration forms and registering Mikey Mouse to vote, rather than advising CFO Sink on insurance matters.”
Background:
Today CFO Alex Sink’s Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Sean Shaw announced the creation of the “Florida Insurance Consumers Coalition.” The coalition is comprised of representatives from various consumer organizations including: the Center for Economic Justice, Consumer Federation of the Southeast, Florida Consumer Action Network, Florida Public Interest Research Group, ACORN Florida, and Florida Community Health Action Information Network (CHAIN), among others.
In a press release distributed by CFO Sink’s official office Shaw stated, “A coalition of Florida’s consumer organizations was long overdue. It is our hope that this coalition will provide consumers with the peace of mind that there is an organization charged with keeping Floridians’ best interests in mind.”
Recent Accounts of ACORN “Providing Florida Voters With Peace Of Mind” and “Keeping Floridians’ best interests in mind:”
In Orange County, ACORN staffers submitted multiple, duplicate registrations on behalf of six separate voters. One individual had 21 duplicate applications. Election Supervisor Bill Cowles and his staff protested, noting in a June memo that ACORN had been submitting sloppy forms as well. Multiple Counties have turned over suspicious registration applications, including one signed by Mickey Mouse, turned in by third party groups. Brevard County elections officials have turned over 23 suspect registrations from ACORN to prosecutors. The state Division of Elections has received two ACORN-related complaints, in Orange and Broward counties. Pinellas County elections officials gave local prosecutors 35 questionable registrations from another group, Work for Progress.
