Tallahassee–Congressman Tom Rooney (R-FL) today commented on Attorney General Bill McCollum’s analysis of the constitutionality of the individual mandate provisions being considered in pending federal health care legislation.
“I commend Attorney General McCollum for his speedy and thorough analysis of the individual mandate portion of the trillion dollar health care experiment Democrat leaders in Washington are trying to push through behind closed doors and despite the objections of the majority of Americans,” said Congressman Rooney.
“General McCollum’s analysis clearly demonstrates that the authority to impose a mandate that individuals carry health insurance, or pay an additional fee, is not provided for in the U.S. Constitution. I appreciate his leadership in working with state attorneys general across the country to ensure that states and citizens pursue legal actions to challenge the Democrats’ government takeover of the health care industry if the legislation becomes law,” continued Congressman Rooney.
Congressman Tom Rooney served in the U.S. Army JAG Corps as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for Fort Hood and taught Constitutional Law and the Laws of War at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Rooney also served as an Assistant Attorney General for Florida under Attorney General Charlie Crist.
