Tallahassee—Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer today announced the appointment of Ambassador John Rood as the Party’s new Finance Chairman.
“Ambassador Rood is both a longtime supporter of the Party and a successful entrepreneur,” noted Greer. “We look forward to working with him to develop our short and long-term financial goals and to secure the resources necessary to elect Republican candidates across Florida.”
Mr. Rood founded The Vestcor Companies in 1983, focusing on real estate investments, development, and construction. In 2004, President George W. Bush appointed Mr. Rood as United States Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas where he served until 2007. In his role managing the Embassy and its 300 employees, Ambassador Rood worked to resolve bilateral issues with the Government of the Bahamas, improve relations between the two countries, oversee Consular Services and use public diplomacy to share United States values with The Bahamas.
Ambassador Rood returned to Jacksonville in 2007 and formed The JDR Companies, developing multifamily properties in Florida, the Carolinas and Texas. The JDR Companies also assumed sales and management responsibilities for the firm’s condominium communities.
“Ambassador Rood has been recognized for his leadership in the corporate community, and we look forward to working with him to create new and innovative fundraising initiatives,” concluded Greer. “He has honored by Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice for his strong leadership and management skills as well as being named the 2001 Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young, proving his leadership skills and entrepreneurial spirit.”
Mr. Rood is the proud father of three children. He is a licensed pilot, an avid sportsman and fisherman, and a supporter of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars football team.
