Tallahassee–Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer released the following statement today regarding Democrat Congressional Candidate Joe Garcia’s planned fundraiser with Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-New York):
“The fact that Joe Garcia is willing to campaign with Charlie Rangel shows just how out of touch he is with the people of Florida’s 25th Congressional District. While Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart stands firm in the face of a brutal Cuban dictatorship, Rangel, who met Fidel Castro several times, including on the tab of the Cuban regime, is willing to give Raul Castro not only credibility, but economic support by allowing American companies to do business in Cuba.
“Besides his outlandish views on the United States’ relationship with Cuba, Charlie Rangel recently introduced a bill that was labeled the “Mother of All Tax Hikes” – a $3.5 trillion tax increase that would raise the taxes of every American taxpayer.
“Joe Garcia says that he is going disagree with Rangel on some issues; however, meeting with leaders of a regime that has caused the suffering of hundreds of thousands of people for more than half a century and supporting tax hikes that would take extra money from the pockets of every taxpayer are more than just small disagreements. I find it unlikely that Joe Garcia will be willing to stand up to Charlie Rangel and other Democrat leaders on these issues. On the other hand, Mario Diaz-Balart has been standing up for CD-25 for years and is the kind of leader we need in Washington to continue to fight for lower taxes, better jobs and a stronger economy.”
